Now that summer seems to have arrived, many of us turn to whites and roses for the summer but let's not forget the lighter reds that, when served slightly chilled, make a wonderful alternative to the usual suspects.
We've recently gotten the Johanneshof Reinisch St. Laurent in the vault and it's a cracking summer red. The Estate is located in the Thermenregion part of Austria and as the name implies, geothermal hot springs run under the vineyards which most certainly contribute to the resulting wine.
The Reinisch family are now in the 4th generation of winemakers in the area and farm organically. They even have their own vine nursery where they preserve local grape varieties.
We recently began stocking their St Laurent in the vault and it's a slightly more intense style of St. Laurent. There is a nice density of red fruits while retaining grippy tannins and finishing on a spicy note. This wine goes very well with roast pork or veal. Russian salad or even a nicely charred tuna steak would pair well with this wine.
The St. Laurent is available for £24.60 in the Wine Vault.
